    USDA Renewable Energy Funding Opportunities

    The Basic Overview

    What does the USDA REAP Program do?


    It provides guaranteed loan financing and grant funding to agricultural producers and rural small businesses to purchase or install renewable energy systems or make energy efficiency improvements.

     

    Who may apply?

    • Agricultural producers with at least 50% of gross income coming from agricultural operations, and
    • Small businesses in eligible rural areas

    What is an eligible area?

    • Businesses must be in an area other than a city or town with a population of greater than 50,000 inhabitants and the urbanized area of that city or town. 
    • Agricultural producers may be in rural or non-rural areas.

    How may the funds be used?
    Funds may be used for the purchase, installation, and construction of renewable energy systems, such as:

    • Solar
    • Wind
    • Hydro
    • Geothermal
    • Hydrogen
    • Ocean Tidal
    • Energy Efficiency Improvements

    Brad Zerbe

    Chief Executive Officer

    Brad has over thirty years of experience in grant writing, fundraising and business consulting.


    He is the former political director for the nation's largest PAC, and finance director for the chairman of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee, who passed the landmark energy tax bill giving incentives to renewable sources of energy.

     

    Brad has worked for three of the nation's five largest financial institutions in securities and banking compliance. Brad is the former director of communications for the state of Arizona’s IT agency, and Arizona State University’s education technology think tank.

     

    In college, he competed in debate, finishing second in the nation, and won his school's highest scholarship for leadership.

    Ron Perla

    President

    As a business consultant, financier, real estate developer and author, Ron has assisted in the startup of over 30 companies ranging from real estate, finance, energy, electronics, entertainment and hospitality.

     

    Ron has served as an independent consultant to business owners, CEO's and developers in finance strategies, business planning and feasibility analysis.

     

    Ron has been an intricate part of several development teams which have planned, developed, and procured financing for a variety of projects totaling over $2 billion.

     

    Ron's experience spans over 35 years and includes extensive commercial lending and real estate acquisition experience with an emphasis in valuation and underwriting,

    Dillon Lewis

    Chief Technician

    Dillon has managed dozens of renewable energy projects including as an EPC, involving engineering, procurement, construction, and also ITC financing.

     

    He has developed over 20MW of projects, installed over 15MW and financed over 10MW, which includes large scale solar canopy projects.


    Dillon was one of the founders of an online renewable energy bidding and information exchange with over 2,500 members, funding over $42 million in solar projects.

    Wendy Strain

    Chief Grant Writer

    Wendy Strain is an experienced renewable energy grant writer, having written multiple successful applications in the areas of alternative fuels, water filtration, motorized transportation, oceanic research (oil spill recovery, red tide), and economic development initiatives.

     

    She is also a former English professor and has advanced degrees in technical writing and rhetoric from Texas A&M University as well as graphic design with specialization in visual rhetoric.

     

    Wendy is committed to improving economic conditions domestically and internationally while working toward an environmentally sustainable proactive society.

    David Novick

    Vice President Of Marketing


    David Novick has over a dozen years of experience in the solar industry in business development and project management.

     

    David's expertise is working with commercial, large scale Native American
    renewable projects. Recent projects include assisting with two winning federal grant proposals with two different federal agencies – one for a rural hotel and the other a utility-scale project for a utility company owned by a Native American tribe.

     

    He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts.

    TJ Stockbridge

    Chief Construction Supervisor

    TJ is an electrical and solar contractor with over 30 years of experience. He has successfully completed over 30 million dollars worth of solar and electrical projects within the state of Arizona.TJ specializes in design-build solar projects.

     

    TJ has studied martial arts for 42 years and earned his fifth-degree black belt and masters degree in 2000.

     

    TJ likes to bring his never give up attitude to all the projects he is involved in.

    Jon Rozelle

    Engineer Consultant

    Jon has been an engineering consultant on a number of renewable energy projects.


    He has worked for several well-known engineering firms including Ball Aerospace, W.L. Gore & amp; Associates, Motor Excellent, and Machine Solutions, Inc.

     

    His projects have included customer manufacturing and testing equipment, medical devices and machines, electric vehicles, remote telemetry, and numerous control systems designed for residential, commercial and industrial projects. His notable projects include the Hubble Space Telescope and the Space Shuttle Star Tracker programs.


    Jon graduated Magna Cum Laude graduate in electrical engineering with Northern Arizona University.
